Smart Well Completion

Overview

Smart completion systems are the key to optimising production and reducing downtime in your wells. Our equipment gives you the well and reservoir data you need to make quick decisions and take confident action to repair and optimise field development. The result is efficient production and extended well life while minimising the total cost of well operation. Manage your field more efficiently to improve recovery with NEO. Now you can take advantage of continuous well monitoring and flow control for multiple horizontal well zones in real time – even in multilateral wells.

Problems

  • Water breakthroughs
  • Gas breakthroughs
  • Low Oil Recovery Coefficient
  • Expensive workovers
Water and gas breakthroughs reduce profitability, oil recovery and well life.

Standard solutions can be costly and complex

Passive flow control devices (FCDs) can help with water breakthroughs in horizontal wells when oil and water viscosities are different. However, over time, fluid properties and reservoir conditions change while the passive flow control device remains static, making the selected configuration less effective as the well ages.

Passive FCDs also have limited effectiveness for gas breakthroughs. In many cases, a water or gas breakthrough leaves hydrocarbons in the reservoir unrecovered.

Hydraulic smart completion systems can help cut off water or gas breakthroughs, but they require multiple hydraulic lines to be installed, which limits the number of zones that can be monitored in a single well.

The cost and complexity of these systems, including the cumbersome pumped surface system, often make them impractical for controlling water and gas breakthroughs in horizontal wells, especially on offshore platforms. Sliding couplings can also be used to control a water or gas breakthrough. However, opening or closing them requires an expensive coiled tubing crew or the use of a tractor, and their control is limited because they are either open or closed, with no throttling capability. A major limitation is that the couplings stick, making it impossible to open or close the unit 1 year after implementation due to the buildup of plaque.

The solution – NEO smart production management system

The NEO complex is a modern solution for well flow control, which includes flow control electrovalves, circulation electrovalves and continuous pressure and temperature monitoring systems, composition sensors, wellhead solids removal monitoring system, as well as cloud-based software. All elements of the system are developed by NEOWELL LLC. NEO completion systems allow collecting, transmitting and analysing well and reservoir data, flow profile and injectivity, as well as managing and controlling selected reservoir sections remotely and in real time.

NEO system

  • Aligns production along the horizontal wellbore, cutting off water or gas breakthroughs and increasing oil recovery rates
  • Provides real-time remote monitoring and control to proactively optimise well production
  • Helps adapt to changing conditions in the wellbore by throttling or closing off high water-gas production zones
  • Reduce costs and increase coverage and reliability by controlling multiple zones with a single electrical line

Aligning the flow profile along the horizontal wellbore helps cut off water or gas breakthroughs and increase oil recovery.
