MID

‘Electromagnetic response’ specific to each pipe contains information about its wall thickness, but extracting this information forces the development of knowledge about electromagnetic phenomena, 3D modelling and wellbore measurement.

This is exactly what we have achieved with the MID platform.

This platform allows our True Tech Condition – Integrity Diagnostics services to accurately diagnose up to four concentric pipes in a wellbore. Unlike conventional systems, it works in all types of wells, including dual-lift and corrosion-resistant alloy wells.

The MID platform is started using standard diagnostic programmes.

Instruments and measurements

The patented “time domain“ measurement method using ultra-fast sensors with short response times, provides the highest accuracy for the diagnosis of all materials, including specialised alloys with high chromium and/or nickel content.

The multi-sensor instrument design and patented ultra-fast coils optimally capture the signal from each barrier for exceptional accuracy in multi-column investigations.

The sensors are designed and manufactured exclusively in-house and feature calibrated geometries and coils with ‘fast’ cores.

Processing and modelling

Our model solves Maxwell’s equations, which helps convert raw data into accurate wall thickness measurements in a variety of downhole structures, including dual-lift structures, providing accurate data throughout the depth of the downhole system.

Analysis and interpretation

Analysts apply their extensive experience in conducting structural integrity analyses in thousands of wells around the world.

The LogViz platform, our digital workspace, provides analysts with many tools for detailed data analysis and visualisation.

Our approach

We are convinced that an accurate diagnosis requires not only highly accurate measurements but also a systematic approach. It is undoubtedly important to use the best sensors and measurements, but it is even more important to use them correctly and then filter, process, and model them to get practically meaningful results.

We take a systematic approach to diagnostics, combining different platforms with their unique capabilities within a calibrated research programme.

The MID electromagnetic platform provides accurate evaluation of up to four concentric tubes in a single lowering and lifting operation.

This platform is part of our Flow Analysis system and is used to assess the condition of pipe walls throughout the well system. The MID platform extends the diagnostics provided by the True Tech State – Integrity Diagnostics services.

MID family

Our Alloy Structural Integrity services utilise MID, PLT and LogViz platforms to conduct accurate column condition assessments. Depending on the service and the purpose of the diagnosis, a specific combination of sensors from the MID platform is used to achieve the best results. Each sensor is designed to activate specific strings or ‘barriers’ and is positioned in the downhole string of the MID system used to conduct the well test.

We apply a number of research scenarios using the MID platform depending on the number of barriers to be investigated. The MID360 platform provides true wall thickness measurement of the tubing or first string in eight sectors with complete and ‘comprehensive’ electromagnetic wall condition sensing. For simultaneous assessment of multiple barriers, the MID2, MID3 and MID4 platforms are used for two, three and up to four barriers respectively. Multi-barrier scenarios can be combined with the MID360 platform to provide a more detailed assessment of the well structure.
