Fluids travelling through a formation into a downhole system have heat capacity, which allows them to heat or cool areas through which they pass. These temperature changes provide valuable information about fluid characteristics, particularly flow rate and profile.
The difficulty is that the physical laws of thermohydrodynamics are incredibly complex, and the interactions between them are even more complex. The three-dimensional structure of the borehole system, made up of metal, concrete and more complicates the process even further. Obtaining accurate flow data under these conditions can seem like an impossible task.
Just not for the Termosim platform.
We started out by getting flow information from temperature curves, and since then we have succeeded more than anyone else.
Today, flow information is more accessible than ever before with our Flow Analysis diagnostic system and Termosim platform.
Termosim architecture
Using LogViz’s digital workspace, analysts select company-developed diagnostic programmes and adjust well system operation to correctly determine the thermohydrodynamics of fluid flow.
The Termosim platform utilises the PLT platform’s low-inertia, high-precision temperature sensors to provide accurate information.
NEOVELL’s high-performance 3-dimensional thermohydrodynamic model accounts for all critical elements of the downhole system, including reservoirs, structural elements and fluid types to produce accurate flow profiles.
The automated model quickly calculates the “answer“ based on the input data.
Parallel processing performs thousands of calculations, solving many thermohydrodynamic equations.
By combining data from the SNL and PLT platforms, analysts model accurate flow profiles across reservoir layers.
Our LogViz digital workspace provides analysts with a variety of tools to process and visualise data from the Termosim platform to facilitate detailed analysis and accurate interpretation.
